Maker Movement

Just what is a Maker, and what is the Maker Movement all about?

Makers are individuals that are interested in do-it-yourself projects, and working with others to either teach or learn. Makers emphasize learning through doing in a social environment.

Makers may organize in several different forms. You may have heard about Maker Spaces such as the GR makers in Grand Rapids, or West Ottawa's Mod Tech program. Maker Spaces can contain equipment for making things, such as 3-D printers, computers, or welders. But Maker Spaces are not all about space. They are also about the people and programs within, that provide opportunities for people to teach and learn.

You can learn more about the Maker movement by reading this excellent article at Time Magazine, or this Holland Sentinel News article.
